PLANT-BASED NUTRITION WITH RASK DERBY

Thursday 19th September 2019, 6-8.30pm

There's often a misconception that you cannot get the recommended amount of protein required unless you consume meat or a huge amount of nuts! How many of you are confused by plant based nutrition? Do you understand which nutrients your body needs and how you can get them through food?

Lucy Kay of The Mind & Body Tree is a registered Nutritional Therapist who will deliver an informative workshop on plant based nutrition, focusing on plant based protein and will touch on the essential nutrients. She will provide you with all the information you need to better understand how to get these through food with handouts to take home and refer to.

RASK will provide dishes to eat on the night comprising of hot and cold items. They will demonstrate how easy it can be to create a protein fuelled meal using simple and easy to buy ingredients. You will be given the recipes to take away on the night so you can give the dishes a go at your own leisure, learning that plant based eating doesn’t have to be complicated.

Throughout the night there will be opportunities to ask questions.

This event is open to everyone. Whether you are embarking on a plant based lifestyle or you are a vegan/vegetarian who is looking to further their food knowledge or simply someone who wishes to reduce their meat intake.

Join us for an informal evening with likeminded people.

Tickets £25.

It can be difficult to navigate all the conflicting information and advice out there about following a plant based diet. It's often the case that when you switch to a vegan diet, you feel healthier and that's usually because your new diet is lighter and rich in vegetables which helps the body to detoxify and gives the digestive system the nutrients it needs to rest and repair itself.

However, if not undertaken carefully, following a plant based diet long term can lead to problems. There are some essential nutrients the body needs that are more difficult to obtain from a plant based diet, so it's important to consider these carefully and plan your diet to optimise your health and wellbeing.

In addition, family/ friends can be less than supportive and decoding restaurant menus can be tricky. Not to mention if you start to get cravings for cheese or bacon!

In this workshop we will examine the nutrients that need careful consideration on a plant based diet and discuss practical ways to be healthy as a vegan. You will also learn how to break your old habits, how to get support from others and how to take control of cravings.

This is a friendly and informal workshop with plenty of opportunity for questions.
